2008 Outstanding Graduating Senior

Lee Dryden and Marissa 
        DiGennaroMarissa DiGennaro is the Outstanding Graduating Senior from the Interdisciplinary Degree Program for the 2007-2008 academic year. Marissa is a major in the Health and Human Service concentration. Her focus is Early Childhood Studies. She has earned a 3.969 GPA in her studies at UB. In addition to the curriculum in Health and Human Services, Marissa completed the prerequisites for admission medical school with straight As and has been admitted to four medical schools: University at Buffalo , Upstate, Albany and Ohio State University. She plans to enroll at UB.

2008 Charles Haynie Memorial Award

Lee Dryden and Michael 
        GallisdorferMichael Gallisdorfer is the 2008 recipient of the Charles Haynie Memorial Student Award given to the student who best embodies the ideals of Charles Haynie. Michael is completing a second Bachelors Degree in Environmental Studies after completing a previous BA in Philosophy. He is a University Honors Scholar with a 3.94 GPA. Michael' concern for social justice and for the development of livable, participatory communities has led him for the last several years to be a member of the Nickel City Cooperative Housing, a member of NASCO (North American Students of Co-Operation). As a member of Nickel City , Michael shares housing and meals with about 20 other members and serves as their bulk foods buyer. From this position Michael has organized the coops participation in Community Supported Agriculture, buying locally grown, organic food from local producers.

Morris K Udall Scholarship Winner

Aaron Krolikowski was awarded the Morris K. Udall Scholarship for his senior year at UB next year. This highly competitive national scholarship is offered by the Morris K. Udall Foundation for students dedicated to careers in the environment. It provides $5,000 tuition support. 80 students are selected nationwide in a national competition. Aaron is a University Honors student and is majoring in the Environmental Studies BS program. He is also a BA major in Political Science. He has a 4.00 GPA for 124 credits at this point.

2008 SUNY Chancelor's Award for Excellence

Two IDP students were awarded the SUNY Chancelor's Award for Excellence

    Ashley Corliss – Health and Human Service (Early Childhood) major with a double major in History and an Education minor

    Alyssa Tevens – Health and HumanService (E arly Childhood) major with a double major in Psychology.

Robert Knoer and Lee DrydenDistinguished Faculty Awards

    Bob Knoer – Bob is leaving IDP after 15 years of distinguished teaching in SSC 406 "Law and Environment". Bob will remain active in the WNY Environmental Community through his participation in the Wind Energy Coalition and other activities.

    Lauren Makeyenko – Graduate of IDP and co-teacher of SSC 326 “Great Lakes Ecology”. Lauren is employed as a NYS DEC environmental educator at the Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve. Lee Dryden and Lauren MakeyenkoLauren was 2007 recipient of the “Paul MacClellan Environmental Citizen of the Year.” The award is named after Mr. Paul MacClellan who for many years was the Buffalo News environment reporter. Awarded by the Erie County Environmental Education Institute, the award recognizes Lauren for her dedication to environmental quality and environmental education
