CAS Policy Committee Resolution on Faculty Workload

The CAS Policy Committee takes notice of the memorandum from Provost Elizabeth Capaldi to Deans (11/1/2000) entitled "Policy on Faculty Workload." The Provost's 11/1/2000 memorandum should be placed in the context of UB's existing policy "Faculty responsibility: policy and process" (approved by the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, 3/17/1993, and promulgated by President William Greiner, 6/2/1993). Under the Policies of the Board of Trustees, the responsibility for allocating duties among faculty rests with the Department Chair. Accordingly, the CAS Policy Committee urges all CAS Departments to gather data about faculty workload practices in the public university departments in their disciplines recently benchmarked by Chairs.
