CAS Policy Committee Resolution on Low Graduate Stipends

Because CAS suffers from non-competitively low graduate stipends across all disciplines, the CAS Policy Committee urges the Provost, as a first step in addressing this issue, to seek a commitment for an increase in endowment funds in order to raise the add-on to CAS Presidential Fellows from the current $4,000 to a new level of $8,000. Since the department base TA stipends range from $8,500 to around $12,500, this increase should make our Presidential Fellowships reasonably competitive in most disciplines, if awarded in a timely fashion.
