:: Click here to download information about the Minor. The Minor The Department now offers a Minor in Comparative literature. Advanced students of modern languages and literatures have an opportunity to situate their literary studies in a broader and more integrated context. Many students taking a Comparative Literature Minor find that it provides an indispensable background to almost any major in Arts and Humanities. Comparative Literature also provides an invaluable preparation for students planning careers in law, psychology, anthropology, sociology, history, medicine, and even geography, since it develops skills in reading complex texts, as well as furnishing tools for interpreting and understanding all the many signs of human expression and the symptoms of human distress. The Minor in Comparative Literature consists of two mandatory courses in literary theory (see COL 301 and COL 302), as well as your choice of up to a maximum of five additional courses relevan to the study of Comparative Literature. Certain courses from Romance Languages, English, Media Studies, Philosophy, and Classics can be credited toward this minor. No more than two courses can be counted toward both the minor and the major. For the approval of courses appropriate to the minor, students are required to consult with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Professor Kalliopi Nikolopoulou , in Clemens 643. If you would like to apply to the program, please fill out an application form and mail or bring it our office at 638 and turn in the application form which is now available online in MS Word and Abobe formats. You will have an appointment with the Director of Undergraduate Studies soon after your application is received. |
